First of all, I have made this list based on my personal choice and how these anime impacted my life. Like the others, I did not focus on MAL ratings. I apologize if you don’t find your favorite rom-com anime on this list. Maybe I haven’t watched it yet, or perhaps I didn’t like it as much as you did. But that doesn’t matter; we are all different. I just mentioned all the names without ranking them because I like all of them very much, so it’s difficult to rank. I hope this article helps you because if I were in your place, this list of the best rom com anime would have helped me a lot. So, without further ado, let’s get started.

Pseudo Harem

A picture of Eiji Kitahama surrounded by all the different characters Rin Nanakura plays to tease him from the anime Pseudo Harem.

This anime easily ranks in my top 3 rom-coms. I never expected to enjoy it so much, but I had a smile on my face the entire time. It’s sweet, wholesome, and definitely worth your time—don’t wait, just go watch it! Pseudo Harem follows a boy named Eiji, who starts getting attention from different ‘girls’ thanks to his friend Rin. Rin loves acting as various characters, so she pretends to be different types of girls around Eiji, creating a pretend harem. As they play out these roles, Rin’s real feelings for Eiji begin to grow, and their friendship slowly blossoms into something more.

Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible

Nagisa Kubo blushing and gazing at Junta Shiraishi in a scene from the anime Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible.

This anime is very wholesome and funny as well. It is a school romance anime that will melt your heart for sure. Junta Shiraishi is an invisible high schooler seeking to enjoy his youth unnoticed. Only Nagisa Kubo, his determined seatmate, sees him. Kubo’s playful antics might just be the key to unlocking Shiraishi’s thrilling youth.

Komi Can't Communicate

This anime is very funny but also cute. It will certainly make your heart happy. Hitohito Tadano wants to blend in at his new high school but ends up sitting next to Shouko Komi, the most popular girl. Komi has anxiety and a communication disorder. When they’re left alone, a series of events occurs, leading Komi and Tadano to communicate through writing on the blackboard. After some time, Tadano discovers that Komi wants to make 100 friends in high school. So, Tadano helps Komi make friends, becoming her first one.

Season 2 is not a direct sequel to Season 1. Horimiya: The Missing Pieces (Season 2) adapts stories from the manga that were not included in the main anime series. But don’t worry about these details. Just go and watch both of them; I can assure you that it will be worth it. At first glance, Kyouko Hori and Izumi Miyamura seem unlikely to get along. Hori is popular and busy with housework, while Miyamura hides his true self behind a meek facade. Despite their differences, they become friends, bonding over their hidden sides and spending time together at Hori’s home. As they both come out of their shells, they reveal to each other a side of themselves hidden from the world.

My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU

Yukino Yukinoshita taking a selfie happily with a blushing Hachiman Hikigaya in a scene from My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU anime.

This anime is one of my most favorite anime. It has a very unique rom-com story, and all the characters leave a strong impression on you. I would say if you want to watch something more than just rom-com, go for it. Hachiman Hikigaya, a cynical high school student, is forced to join the Volunteer Service Club as punishment. Alongside the ice queen Yukino Yukinoshita, they help fellow students with their problems. Will Hachiman’s negative outlook on life help or hinder their efforts.

My Dress-Up Darling

This is a very sweet and romantic anime. It will surely make your heart skip a beat. And the character Marin is so cute; you will love her for sure. High schooler Wakana Gojou is passionate about making hina dolls, a hobby he keeps secret from others. When Marin Kitagawa, a popular girl, discovers Gojou’s sewing talent and confesses her own hobby of cosplay, she asks for his help, recognizing her lack of skill in sewing. Despite their differences, they bond over their shared love for sewing and grow closer.

You should watch this anime because it has an intriguing story and a beautiful ending. This romantic comedy centers on 27-year-old Arata Kaizaki, who feels like a failure. His life takes a turn when Ryou Yoake offers him a mysterious pill. Overnight, Arata transforms into a 17-year-old and is enrolled in high school for a year as part of an experiment. Initially confident due to his life experience, Arata soon faces difficulties with academics and adjusting to modern school life. With Ryou observing his progress, Arata navigates his new life, learning valuable lessons from his classmates along the way.

This is an ideal rom-com anime. A tsundere and a handsome boy, you can’t go wrong with this anime. Misaki Ayuzawa, the first female student council president at Seika High, is known as the “Demon President” for her strictness with boys. When she encounters Takumi Usui rejecting a girl’s love confession, she reprimands him. Later, she discovers Usui at her secret job at a maid cafe and vows to protect her reputation. However, Usui starts teasing her and visiting the cafe regularly.

This is a very beautiful anime. It will certainly fill your heart with joy. The character Sawako is shy, introverted, and someone who is unaware of how pretty she is, making her an ideal girlfriend for boys. Sawako Kuronuma, nicknamed “Sadako” due to her resemblance to the character from The Ring series, is misunderstood as scary despite being sweet and timid. She admires Shouta Kazehaya, the popular boy in her class, and aims to be more like him. When Kazehaya organizes a test of courage, Sawako sees it as a chance to make friends. As she interacts with classmates Ayane Yano and Chizuru Yoshida, Sawako believes meeting Kazehaya has changed her for the better, unaware of the impact she has had on him.

This is also a very good anime. It has something unique in its story. You will absolutely enjoy this anime. Futaba Yoshioka deliberately repels anyone who might be attracted to her, fearing a repeat of her middle school ostracism. She treasures memories of her crush, Kou Tanaka, but their connection was abruptly severed. When she discovers that Kou has returned as Kou Mabuchi, she feels conflicted. Wanting to regain Kou’s attention, Futaba considers returning to her former self but risks losing her friends in the process.

The Dangers in My Heart

Anna Yamada and Kyoutarou Ichikawa standing very close to each other, touching heads. Yamada is blushing and smiling, while Ichikawa is also blushing, from the anime The Dangers in My Heart.

This anime may be the G.O.A.T. of rom-com anime. It is a very wholesome and sweet anime, so sweet that your blood sugar might increase. The animation, the story, everything is perfect. I would say, stop wasting your time and go watch it now. Kyoutarou Ichikawa harbors a dark desire to see his classmate Anna Yamada suffer, but as they spend time together, he discovers a different side to her. Despite his initial intentions, he begins to feel affection and a desire to protect her. Could this change in perspective lead to something more between them?

The Dreaming Boy is a Realist

Aika Natsukawa and Wataru Sajou standing and facing each other, with Aika blushing and looking in another direction while Sajou is looking at her and blushing, from the anime The Dreaming Boy is a Realist

This is also a very cute anime. This anime focuses on Wataru Sajou, who is known for his relentless pursuit of his crush, Aika Natsukawa. However, after a moment of realization, he decides to move on from his one-sided love and focus on other aspects of his life. As Wataru begins to distance himself from Aika and spend time with friends and other girls, Aika’s behavior towards him suddenly becomes suggestive, causing him to question his decision to give up on his feelings for her.

Masamune-kun no Revenge

Masamune Makabe and Aki Adagaki are on a bench, with Aki sitting and Masamune lying down with his head resting on her lap, from the anime Masamune-kun's Revenge.

This anime is very funny and sweet too. It has some very wholesome scenes that will surely fill your heart with joy. Masamune Makabe, once mocked as “Piggy” by Aki Adagaki, transforms into a handsome high schooler determined to make her fall for him and then reject her. When he transfers to Aki’s school, he begins his plan but faces challenges. As he progresses, a mysterious letter threatens his revenge unless he uncovers the sender’s identity.

The Quintessential Quintuplets

Little Fuutarou Uesugi and Miku Nakano standing and facing each other, with Miku holding Fuutarou's hands and smiling, from the anime The Quintessential Quintuplets.

This anime has a very nice story and also very cute, unique characters. You will enjoy this anime very much, and the ending is very wholesome too. Fuutarou Uesugi, a brilliant but friendless high schooler from a struggling family, clashes with a transfer student, Itsuki Nakano, over a seat. He later accepts a lucrative tutoring job, only to find out that Itsuki is his client—along with her four identical sisters. Despite their resistance to studying, Fuutarou is determined to help them graduate and save his family from debt.
