Attack on Titan is the number one anime in popularity on MAL. It is one of the greatest anime of all time. Everyone becomes a fan of this anime after watching it. Attack on Titan is a must-watch anime with thrilling action, deep characters, and top-tier animation, making it a standout series for fans of all genres. I’ve tried to make this watch guide as simple as possible so that beginners can easily understand how to watch and just dive right in. So, let’s get started!
Plot Summary
Attack on Titan is set in a world where humanity has retreated behind massive walls to escape the Titans, giant creatures that devour humans without reason. The story follows Eren Yeager, who witnesses his mother being killed by a Titan when their town is breached. Driven by a desire for revenge and a hope to see the world beyond the walls, Eren enlists in the military, joined by his friends Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert.
As they train and fight, they join the elite Survey Corps, a group that ventures outside the walls to study and combat Titans. Along the way, they uncover the Titans’ mysterious origins and a conspiracy involving the ruling government. The series delves into themes of freedom, survival, and the human spirit’s resilience. As Eren and his friends face both Titans and fellow humans, they learn that the real enemy might be closer than they think. The anime is known for its intense battles, complex characters, and thought-provoking twists.
Attack on Titan has four seasons with 89 episodes, along with four compilation movies, eight OADs, a spin-off, and two live-action films
The four compilation movies are just recaps of past episodes and are not essential since you’ll be watching the entire series in one go. The spin-off, “Attack on Titan: Junior High,” consists of 12 episodes. I didn’t include it in the list because it’s not related to the main story. However, it’s still amazing, and if you want something extra, you can watch it. As for the two live-action movies, they are separate from the main story and not essential. I mentioned them just to inform you that they exist.
Basically, the release order and chronological order for Attack on Titan are almost the same. It’s the perfect way to watch this awesome anime. While many websites offer AoT watch guides with a lot of information, which can be helpful, I found it to be quite confusing. That’s why I decided to make this guide as simple as possible. So, here it is:
Attack on Titan Release and Chronological Order
Attack on Titan Season 1: Episodes 1-25
Ilse’s Notebook: Memoirs of a Scout Regiment Member (OAD)
The Sudden Visitor: The Torturous Curse of Youth (OAD)
Distress (OAD)
No Regrets: Part 1 (OAD)
No Regrets: Part 2 (OAD)
Attack on Titan Season 2: Episodes 1-12
Lost Girls: Wall Sina, Goodbye: Part 1 (OAD)
Lost Girls: Wall Sina, Goodbye: Part 2 (OAD)
Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 1: Episodes 1-12
Lost Girls: Lost in the Cruel world (OAD)
Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2: Episodes 1-10
Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 1: Episodes 1-16
Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 2: Episodes 1-12
Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 3 : Episodes 1-2
Make sure not to skip the post-credits scenes in any episode, as they offer important information.
Attack on Titan fillers
One of the things that makes this anime so great is that the main seasons have no fillers. That means all 89 episodes are original manga canon episodes. Only the 8 episodes of the Attack on Titan OADs have 2 filler episodes.
Here are the filler episodes:
The Sudden Visitor: The Torturous Curse of Youth (OAD)
Distress (OAD)
Although they are fillers, I strongly recommend watching them. As you can see, I have mentioned them in the watching order.
That’s the end of it. I hope you enjoy this awesome anime as much as I did, or even more. It’s a masterpiece created by Hajime Isayama. Many, many thanks to him. I’m sure you’ll love the animation of Attack on Titan so much that you’ll want to see more anime with fantastic animation.
